On October 14, 2023, volunteers of the Fiato Foundation attended the Trunk or Treat event hosted by Olive Crest LA at the Cityline Church in Lakewood. Each of the volunteers were given various roles to help, ranging from videotaping performances, to setting up the decorations for the trunk of our car, handing out treats to all of the children, and performing for the wonderful event. All the volunteers (Caleb Tsai, Elijah Mei, Andrew Yan, Ava Turner, Symai Jones, Nanami Yamashita, Mira Kelly Villa, Chiara del Rio-Ascolese, Jacy Lindsay and Kohana Maguadog) worked together and did what was asked from the event organizers. The performers especially rehearsed hard to play well for the kids walking throughout the event.
As the event started, our first performance was well under way. Up first was Caleb Tsai, Ava Turner, and Nanami Yamashita, who were playing a trio violin part on a spooky version of “Thriller” by Michael Jackson. Caleb, Ava, and Nanami, all played together side by side, showing their immense talent for their instruments. With much experience at El Segundo High School’s orchestra, they showed off their expertise in violin and their years of playing with this impressive performance.
After this wonderful performance, the event went under way very well, some of the members going back to the car to help give out candy to passing children. Near the middle of the event, was the next performance by Elijah Mei. As a saxophonist, he played a well known Halloween song, “Spooky Scary Skeletons” by Andrew Gold. Elijah, being in marching band, and concert band, showed off his talent by playing into the microphone and delivering confidently. Although a short performance, it was a memorable one.
Lastly, as the event was winding down to a close, Mira Kelly Villa sang a beautiful rendition of "Good Riddance" by Darren Korb. As a member of the El Segundo High School Choir, she displayed her amazing talent and voice by touching the hearts of the audience through a calm solo performance that grabbed everyone's attention from start to finish.
With all these amazing performances, it is clear that community service can be done through a wide variety of ways. It could be through these wonderful performances, by serving children through service, or just bringing a smile to the faces of everyone.
